Stucco Wall Installation Overview

The MaxSeal wall mounted pet doors are ideal for installation through any type of wall.  The self-framing tunnel is made from one solid piece of aluminum.  There are no seams for moisture seepage and the inherent strength allows for minimal framing in the wall itself.  (Other wall mounted pet doors require self framing of the tunnel opening to help support tunnel kits).
Start with marking for the hole in the wall at the proper height for this particular pet. The dimensions described are on the installation instructions that comes with your new MaxSeal Pet Door.

We recommend using Painter's tape to outline the rough cut area to keep the drywall from cracking outside the desired cut area. Using a key-hole, or drywall knife, cut out the desired area for the rough cut.  Rough cut dimensions are provided with the instructions or you may use the tunnel itself to trace the outline needed for the cut out. 

(In this illustration the installer uses tape to outline the cut on the interior side of the wall as well)

Once you have removed the drywall of the interior wall side; remove or push the insulation to the side to give you a clean area to access the inner exterior wall.

Drill completely through the wall in each corner so that the holes penetrating the exterior wall will act as a guide when you cut the exterior wall from the outside of the house. each of the four corners. Drill from the inside, through to the outside.
From the outside of the house; tape the perimeter of the desired opening.(Keep the drilled guide holes in each corner as your guide). The area is taped off to make sure the cut does not extend outside the desired area and to minimize any crumbling of the Stucco edges.  . A putty knife is used to cut through the stucco and mesh wiring. Using either the putty knife or key-hole saw, smooth the edge of the cut.

Now you have a clean hole through the wall.  Slide the pet door in to the hole from the inside. From the outside, mark with a pencil the portion of tunnel that will need to be trimmed off.  Trim the access tunnel using a pair of tin snips.

The next step is to fasten the exterior portion of the pet door. The exterior piece sleeves inside of the tunnel, covering any sharp or jagged edges. Drill through the exterior flange using the provided drill bit and secure it to the tunnel frame using the provided screws. It is recommended to run a bead of caulk around the outside edge of the external portion of the pet door where it meets with the wall.

The final step is to add the carpet to the inside bottom and walls of the pet door tunnel to finish it off.
It is recommended to use a silicon caulk to adhere the carpet to the tunnel.

Note: If the exterior ground is lower than the interior flooring, using a platform can make the pet opening easier and safer to use.
